Godadhar, Akhori (Ghansali), Tehri Garhwal, is home to many women and girls with the potential and determination to improve their lives and contribute to their families and communities. However, limited access to vocational training and livelihood opportunities often restricted their ability to acquire practical skills and achieve economic independence. The need for a dedicated platform that could empower women through skill development and self-reliance was increasingly evident. Inspired by the values and legacy of Late Shri Indramani Badoni Ji, an initiative was envisioned to create meaningful opportunities for women while promoting sustainable community development.
To address this need, the Samoon Foundation established SSDC-04 (Samoon Skills Development Centre-04) in Godadhar, Akhori (Ghansali), Tehri Garhwal, Uttarakhand. Dedicated to the memory of Late Shri Indramani Badoni Ji, the centre was inaugurated on 14 August 2022 with the objective of empowering women and girls through sewing and tailoring training. Under the guidance of Centre Trainer Monika Semwal, with support from Programme Coordinator Vikram Shah and Gram Pradhan Anita Devi, the centre provided structured vocational training focused on practical skill development, confidence building, and livelihood generation. Through active community participation and hands-on learning, the initiative created an environment that encouraged self-reliance and personal growth. The training programme was successfully completed on 23 March 2023.
The initiative directly benefited 50 women and girls, equipping them with practical sewing and tailoring skills that enhanced their confidence and livelihood opportunities. The training enabled participants to explore self-employment opportunities, strengthen their economic independence, and play a more active role in supporting their families and contributing to their communities.
SSDC-04 emerged as a meaningful platform for women’s empowerment and skill development in Godadhar. By providing access to vocational training and livelihood-focused education, the initiative helped transform skills into opportunities and aspirations into achievements. Dedicated to the memory of Late Shri Indramani Badoni Ji, the project stands as a lasting tribute to his legacy while reflecting the Samoon Foundation’s commitment to building self-reliant individuals and stronger rural communities across Uttarakhand.
