In the serene hills of Village Sour, Patti Bharpoor, Tehri Garhwal, Uttarakhand, many individuals aspired to improve their livelihoods but lacked access to structured skill development opportunities. Women and youth, eager to learn and progress, faced challenges due to limited exposure to vocational training and practical learning platforms. This absence of accessible resources restricted their ability to explore employment or entrepreneurial pathways, thereby limiting the overall growth and development of the community.
As part of its continued commitment to community upliftment and women empowerment, Samoon Foundation established SSDC-11 (Samoon Skill Development Centre-11) in Village Sour, Patti Bharpoor, Tehri Garhwal, which was inaugurated on 24 June 2024. Under the guidance of Centre Trainer Ms. Sanjana and Programme Coordinator Mr. Bijendra Kumar, the centre focused on delivering hands-on skill training aligned with local livelihood opportunities and emerging employment needs. By combining experiential learning with structured skill development and ongoing support, the programme promoted women’s empowerment, built confidence among participants, and enabled them to develop capabilities for sustainable income generation. The training phase of the centre was successfully completed on 24 October 2024.
The programme successfully benefited 40 women and girls, providing them with practical vocational skills and technical knowledge that enhanced their employability and self-reliance. The initiative also helped them build confidence, encouraged them to pursue income-generating opportunities, and supported them in becoming more independent contributors to their families and communities.
SSDC-11 has become an important platform for promoting skill development, women empowerment, and economic independence in Village Sour. By making vocational learning more accessible, the initiative has given participants an opportunity to discover their abilities, build confidence, and improve their livelihoods, while also playing a meaningful role in strengthening their community.
