Krun, a remote village in Patti-Bharpoor, Tehri Garhwal, is home to many women who possess the determination and potential to create a better future for themselves and their families. Yet, limited access to vocational training and structured skill development opportunities often made it difficult for them to gain practical, market-oriented skills and explore sustainable livelihood options. In the absence of a dedicated platform for capacity building, many women were unable to fully convert their abilities into economic independence and long-term self-reliance.
The Samoon Foundation established SSDC-08 (Samoon Skills Development Centre-08) in Krun, Patti-Bharpoor, Tehri Garhwal, Uttarakhand, as a focused centre for women’s skill development and empowerment. The centre was inaugurated on 10 March 2024 with the aim of offering structured vocational training and creating opportunities for women to strengthen their capabilities and improve their livelihood prospects. Under the guidance of Centre Trainer Pinki Devi and with the support of Programme Coordinator Direndra Rawat, the centre conducted a well-planned training programme centered on practical skill acquisition, confidence building, and livelihood-focused learning. The sessions encouraged active participation, improved employability, and prepared beneficiaries for income-generating opportunities. The training programme was successfully completed on 10 July 2024.
The initiative directly benefited 35 women, helping them develop practical skills, strengthen their confidence, and broaden their livelihood opportunities. The training provided participants with knowledge and competencies that can support income generation, improve household resilience, and encourage greater involvement in community development.
SSDC-08 emerged as a valuable platform for learning, empowerment, and social progress in Krun. By investing in women’s skill development, the initiative created pathways toward greater independence and improved economic participation. The project reflects the Samoon Foundation’s continued commitment to women’s empowerment and its broader vision of building resilient, self-reliant rural communities across Uttarakhand.
