The women and girls of Village Khawara (Vinakkhal), Tehri Garhwal, possessed the determination and potential to contribute more actively to their families and communities. However, limited access to vocational training and livelihood opportunities often restricted their ability to become economically independent. The lack of structured skill development programmes highlighted the need for an initiative focused on women empowerment, self-reliance, and sustainable livelihood generation.
To address this need, the Samoon Foundation established SSDC-06 (Samoon Skills Development Centre-06) in Village Khawara (Vinakkhal), Tehri Garhwal, Uttarakhand. The centre was inaugurated on 10 December 2023 with the objective of empowering women and girls through sewing and tailoring training. Under the guidance of Centre Trainer Mamta Rawat, with support from Programme Coordinator Vikram Shah and Gram Pradhan Kuldeep Singh Rawat, participants received practical vocational training designed to enhance their skills, confidence, and livelihood opportunities. Through structured learning and active community participation, the initiative promoted self-reliance and economic empowerment. The training phase was successfully completed on 10 April 2024.
The initiative directly benefited 50 women and girls, equipping them with practical sewing and tailoring skills that enhanced their confidence and livelihood prospects. The training enabled participants to explore income-generating opportunities, strengthen their financial independence, and contribute more actively to the well-being of their families and communities.
SSDC-06 became more than just a training centre; it emerged as a platform for learning, empowerment, and opportunity. By providing women and girls with valuable vocational skills, the initiative helped transform potential into progress and encouraged greater self-reliance within the community. The successful implementation of the project reflects the Samoon Foundation’s continued commitment to women empowerment and sustainable community development, creating a lasting impact in Village Khawara (Vinakkhal) and beyond.
