GRAM PRADHAN

In the remote village of Roomdhar, Tehri Garhwal, many women had limited opportunities to acquire vocational skills and access sustainable livelihood options. The lack of structured training programmes often prevented them from utilizing their potential, reducing opportunities for economic participation and personal growth.

With the objective of promoting women empowerment and self-reliance, the Samoon Foundation established SSDC-02 (Samoon Skills Development Centre-02) in Roomdhar, Tehri Garhwal. The centre was inaugurated on 01 December 2020 and successfully completed its first phase on 28 February 2021. Under the dedicated guidance of Centre Trainer Malati Bhatt and Programme Coordinator Padma Uniyal, the centre provided skill development training that enabled women to learn practical skills and build confidence for a better future.

The programme benefited 30 women, creating opportunities for skill enhancement, personal development, and livelihood generation. Participants gained valuable knowledge, increased self-confidence, and a stronger sense of independence, empowering them to contribute more effectively to their households and communities.

The initiative emerged as an important step towards strengthening women-led development in rural Uttarakhand. Through skill-based learning and community participation, the centre helped unlock new opportunities for local women and reinforced the Samoon Foundation’s commitment to building empowered, self-sufficient, and resilient communities.
