SSDC13 Osla Village, Uttarkashi, Uttarakhand

In the remote village of Osla, Uttarkashi, Uttarakhand, many women had limited access to vocational training that could help them develop practical skills and become financially independent. The absence of local skill development facilities restricted their opportunities to contribute to their household incomes and actively participate in the socio-economic development of their community.

With a vision to introduce fresh avenues for skill-building and self-reliance among women, Samoon Foundation established SSDC-13 (Samoon Skill Development Centre-13) in Osla Village, Uttarkashi, which was inaugurated on 10 April 2025. Under the guidance of Centre Trainer Ms. Surendri Devi and Programme Coordinator Mr. Vijay Pal, the centre introduced free training in sewing and knitting using seven sewing machines. The initiative complemented the Foundation’s ongoing educational efforts through Samoon Adarsh Vidyalaya, extending its commitment from education to livelihood generation. The inauguration was attended by School Coordinator Vijaypal Rana, Parent Committee President Khajan Singh, and members of the Samoon Foundation team. The centre also supported the village adoption initiative led by Hon’ble Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, under which Mr. Vinod Jethuri adopted Osla Village to promote its holistic development. The training programme was successfully completed on 12 July 2025, empowering women with practical vocational skills and livelihood opportunities.

The programme successfully benefited 15 women, providing them with practical sewing and knitting skills while strengthening their confidence and financial independence. Through hands-on training, participants developed the capabilities required to undertake income-generating activities, support their families, and contribute more actively to the socio-economic development of their community.

With the successful completion of SSDC-13, Samoon Foundation concluded another impactful initiative dedicated to promoting women empowerment and sustainable rural development in Osla. By equipping 15 women with practical vocational skills and enhancing their confidence, the programme created lasting opportunities for self-reliance and livelihood generation. The initiative reflects the Foundation’s continued commitment to strengthening rural communities through accessible skill development and economic empowerment.
