The Samoon Foundation proudly announces the inauguration of its 12th Samoon Skill Development Centre, coded SSDC12, in the remote and scenic village of Banjhbagad, Nanda Nagar, District Chamoli, Uttarakhand. Officially launched on April 7, 2025, this center marks another impactful step in the Foundation’s mission to uplift rural communities by providing accessible, high-quality skill development opportunities.

Strategically established in Banjhbagad to address the long-standing need for local vocational training, SSDC12 aims to empower women by equipping them with practical skills in sewing and handcrafts. Prior to this initiative, the women of the village had to travel nearly 5 kilometers for even basic stitching services. The center eliminates this barrier and brings learning directly to their doorstep.

SSDC12 is set to benefit over 25 women, offering a focused curriculum that combines technical instruction with hands-on practice. These training programs are tailored to help women gain financial independence and support their families through self-employment or small-scale enterprise.

The training at the center is led by Ms. Gudiya Devi, a highly experienced trainer in sewing and traditional handcrafts. Her dedication and expertise ensure that each participant receives both foundational and advanced knowledge in the craft, along with the confidence to pursue their own entrepreneurial path.

Overseeing the day-to-day operations of the center is Mrs. Darshani Devi, the Program Coordinator and President of the local Mahila Mangal Dal. Her tireless efforts in mobilizing community members and coordinating the initiative have been instrumental in making SSDC12 a reality.

This center was also made possible thanks to the heartfelt request of Mr. Lakshman Rawat, a differently-abled entrepreneur and long-time beneficiary of the Foundation. His vision for community empowerment aligned with Samoon’s goals, making SSDC12 a powerful example of collaborative rural development.

Currently operational, SSDC12 stands as a transformative hub for women in Banjhbagad and surrounding areas. The Samoon Foundation remains deeply committed to fostering self-reliance and sustainable growth across Uttarakhand, and SSDC12 is a shining testament to this enduring commitment.
